MANY VOICES,

MANY CHOICES

Today, as never before. Christians are faced with new teachings, fresh ideas, and a whole array of doctrine via the T.V. With so many new ideas on the horizon, the inevitable uproar is upon us. We hear many voices, (usually arguing with each other!), and we are faced with many choices.

In the midst of all this, the Bible contains timely warnings, and we would do well to heed the steady voice of God above all others.

A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

Since many of the topics confronting believers today are extra-biblical, we would do well to heed the warning of scriptures regarding those topics not dealt with expressly in the Bible. The Apostle Paul foreknew these extra-biblical doctrines would arise, so he issued this warning in 1 Corinthians 4:6,

"now these things, Brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn NOT TO EXCEED WHAT IS WRITTEN in order that no one of you might become arrogant in behalf of one against the other."

In other words, IF IT ISN'T IN THE BIBLE, LEAVE IT ALONE!!

THE LITTLE "gods" TEACHING

Nowhere in scripture are Christians called "gods". We will be kings and priests to God. (Revelation 1:6). Of the over 250 references to "gods" in scripture, all are CREATED and FALSE. The "little gods" teaching is Mormonism and Hinduism. It is not Christianity. Remember, this was the original lie to Eve in the Garden of Eden. Christians, avoid it!

INNER HEALING, HEALING OF MEMORIES, ETC.

We all know that when we become Christians, we are new creatures in Christ. (2 Cor. 5:17). This does not automatically change us so that old hurts and traumas are forgotten instantly. They are often carried into our new walk with Christ. What, then, shall we do? Should we be bringing them up to deal with them, or consult a psychiatrist or psychologist, even a Christian one, for help? Should we undergo "regression" or "healing of the memories" sessions in an attempt to go back in time and picture Jesus with us?

Biblically, there is not one instance mentioned of anything resembling "inner healing" etc. Rather than the Christian being "backward-looking", we are told time and again to look forward.

Philippians 3:13 echoes the truth taught in many similar scriptures,

"...FORGETTING WHAT LIES BEHIND and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

I am for Spirit-filled, Christian counselors who are solid in the Word of God, and can biblically help troubled Christians to forgive and forget, deal with past sin, and get on with God! I do not agree with counseling that keeps bringing up the past, even with the best intentions of helping the situation. Inner healing will come naturally as a person grows in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, and we learn to forgive ourselves and others.

"NAME IT AND CLAIM IT" PROSPERITY

Christians need not all be poor and downtrodden, although some are. Christians need not all be rich and prosperous, although some are. Others will experience degrees of both situations as they walk with God. You see, it is not material prosperity that is of prime importance, but SPIRITUAL PROSPERITY, whatever our state may be. Philippians 4 :11-13 says it all.

"...I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me".

Again, a look at believers throughout the pages of the Bible will put the matter in perspective. We are overcomers in Christ, in whatever circumstance we find ourselves. Christians, learn to be content!

IN CLOSING

Let us never forget the sovereignty of God. In His proper time He will heal us physically and emotionally. He may bring upon us times of material prosperity or times of need. We do not " force" God to work in our lives with "Gimme, gimme" confessing. Rather, as we yield to Him, He can mold us as He wills. All our past experiences can be used for His glory eventually.
